  • Interview: Not Yr Sweetheart Artists 2

POSTED ON 21/11/2015 BY THE PRINT BAR

Pastels, large-scale paintings, 70’s inspired illustrations and wall art of the illegal kind! It’s almost Not Yr Sweetheart time, but before we finish bumping all the works in say a quick g’day to four more brilliant babes who will be filling your eyes and minds with beauty (and potentially some brash brutality too!)

Who the hell are ya, babe?

I am a Banker who is a part time accessories and clothing label owner, defender of independent designers.

What Pantone/Web/CMYK colour are you and why?

Pantone 2645C calm and collected, still a little bit girly.

3 artists who seriously influence your work?

I LOVE Mark Ryden, Yoshimoto Nara and Andy Goldsworthy.

100 words about your piece for Not Yr Sweetheart?

It will be about my relationship with social media for constructing and preserving facets of the child-like self. I am almost transparent with the online world; I reveal private aspects of myself, I am more open with it than my parents. I am keen to meet up with strangers who DM me on instagram – most have turned into long lasting friendships. The work captures an innocent and naïve attitude towards the online world – that harbours a darkness we are all too aware of, which is no longer seen as a threat to us.

One thing you can’t live without?

Green tea Kit Kat.

 Where can we find you?

Who the hell are ya, babe?

I’m YoungEarlGrey. I make art, draw weird blue people sometimes and basically insert myself into every 70’s/80’s/90’s fantasy my brain comes up with. I also enjoy photographing places that make me feel things and mash it up with my drawings.

What Pantone/Web/CMYK colour are you and why?

I want to say I’m that really nice cyan that rarely turns out nice when you convert to CMYK from RGB but that’s like selling myself short, so I’m #ee6c7f because it’s a nice pretty pink and who doesn’t like pink?

3 artists who seriously influence your work?

Keith Haring, because he was so influential in crossing the border between high art and commercialism. He could sell a painting to a bunch of collectors and then sell the same image on a hat in one breath. To me that’s the epitome of a successful artist, being able to market yourself to all walks of life and be approachable no matter how much money your fans might have or not have.

Daft Punk, because they are the coolest dudes ever and I’ve been devouring the span of their career for the past two years. They work from a similar place of inspiration as me and I admire their ability to both reflect on their childhood and create the future of music at the same time.

And lastly but not least, a very new inspiration to my artwork in the form of Maxime, my super babein’ and very cool boyfriend. You’ll spot him in my series Things I Left In Paris, as he’s the number one thing I’ve unfortunately left behind (for now! I’m going back in November!).

100 words about your piece for Not Yr Sweetheart?

Things I Left In Paris is a reflection on some things I lost, some things I gained and some things that I found out were total bullshit and were getting me down. I’ve always drawn myself in different forms in my artwork, and often as a combination of people that have influenced me or I find similar to parts of myself. In a way, all the pieces in Things I Left In Paris are me. Some are bittersweet, some are very happy. All are parts of myself.

One thing you can’t live without?

Bubble tea. When I was in Paris, I immediately tracked down the only Chatime (the best bubble tea chain if you know your stuff) and went there everyday. I ended up talking to the owner there, who actually got me to do some artwork for the store. I accepted payment in free bubble tea until I left. This is how bad my addiction is.

 Where can we find you?

You can mostly find me on Instagram or posting weird thoughts on tumblr or doing the Facebook thing.

The lovely Jess Cochrane was incredibly flat out preparing for another solo show close to her home, so she was unable to provide us with an interview. Instead she linked us to this beautiful video interview she did on Vimeo!

Who the hell are you?

Maid, the mermaid, maiden of the sea ?

What pantone/web/cmyk colour are you and why?
Fantasia – Ironlak.
Dreamy, cute liquid pastel contained in a pressurised can.

3 artists who seriously influence your work?
Hardworking artist that inspire me are Dabs&Myla, John Kaye, Alexis Winter, and sooo many more!

100 words about your piece(s) for Not Yr Sweetheart?

I’m not one to create a faux Internet sensation from carefully thought out imagery. Most of my private life is kept from the internet and due to legal reasons I don’t have a strong “selfie game”. My piece illustrates my view of objects, a glimpse at how I perceive.

One thing you can’t live without?
Caffeine ?

Where can we find you (social media + web links) ?
Distracted at my desk or wandering around the streets laughing to myself and painting my name. Sometimes I post little bits on Instagram ❤
